While authors should definitely continue to focus their social networking pursuits toward Facebook and Twitter, the fastest growing social media network is Instagram, and if they do not have a presence there, they are missing out on an untapped market. More and more adults are joining and using Instagram, and it presents so much potential for authors to connect with their audience and grow.
Some authors use their Instagram to divulge details about their work or to share imagery that influences them. Others use jokes to gain a viewer’s attention or show what inspires them. Another posts amusing photos of his dogs.
There is no right or wrong way to use Instagram, as long as you have a clear goal before establishing an account and you know why you’re there. Every author uses their Instagram differently but they are accomplishing their goal, which is connecting with their audience.
